>Evergreen’s members are not quite traditional cooperatives, where all profits go directly into the hands of the employee-owners. The goal of traditional worker co-ops is to benefit the members of the co-op, while Evergreen aims to not only benefit its workers but the broader community as well by creating new jobs that pay a living wage.
>The gig economy is a striking example of how work has changed during the Covid-19 pandemic. We investigate how this on-demand work has eroded workers’ rights but may lead to new types of unions.
>The PGDip programme seeks to maintain an appropriate balance between legal theory and practical skills. It is directly aligned with academic standards of the University and the Department of Higher Education. Comprising four modules, the content is continuously updated in terms of amendments to labour legislation as well as case law.
>Parliament is considering a bill aimed at regulating e-hailing services. The proposed amendments would give the Transport Department some control over the likes of Uber, Bolt and meter taxis.
